- Shōnen - For boys (shonen means 'young boy' in Japanese) One of the most popular and well know demographics, shonen anime is typically high-action, fast paced with comedy, and a male lead character. Examples: Dragon Ball, Fullmetal Alchemist, Naruto, Pokémon, Yu-Gi-Oh!
- Seinen - For men. Examples: Cowboy Bebop, Lupin the 3rd, Oh My Goddess!, Samurai Champloo, Trigun
